University of Cambridge Logo

The University of Cambridge is a partner institution which offers specialist world-class capabilities in wide band gap nitrides. Additional growth capability in the surrounding environment includes molecular beam epitaxy of nitrides, which is available in the Cavendish Laboratory, with a focus on growth of high density self-assembled nitride nanowires.  Additional characterisation capability is available which supports the development of new GaN technologies.

Facilities offered by our partner Institution, University College London, include Group IV materials and world-class MBE capabilities. MBE is the ideal technology for the development of new materials and innovative structures. The Facility at UCL is able to supply a wide variety of Group-IV materials, alloy combinations and types of structures using a wide range of sources.

Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering

The Department is respected internationally for its many important contributions in the field of
electronic and electrical engineering. We currently have 46 academic staff, including 22 Professors, and a student community of approximately 800 comprising undergraduate, postgraduate taught and research students. Our teaching is underpinned by research at the leading edge, with world-class laboratories available to undergraduates and postgraduates. The Department is organised into three research areas: Semiconductor Materials and Devices, Communications, and Electrical Machines and Drives.  The Department has been awarded an Athena Swan Bronze Award, for its support of representation of Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics.

University of Sheffield Quantum Centre

The Quantum Centre @ Sheffield is a university-wide collaboration of over 50 researchers developing quantum technologies with the potential to revolutionise computing, communication, sensing and imaging. Our device hardware is built using III-V semiconductors and we have world-leading capabilities in crystal growth, nanometre scale device fabrication and device physics research. Wider activities include complementary theory and software development.

UK Semiconductors is the largest annual UK conference on all aspects of semiconductor research and is organised by the EPSRC National Epitaxy Facility. It is held in Sheffield in July and is supported by the Institute of Physics Semiconductor Physics Group.
